Kensington teen shares poem 'Forgotten Nature' about the Earth and the environment

We never seem to look at the sun and how it illuminates the Earth and creates different hues of colors depending on the place.

My name is Jazielys Serrano (Jay to my friends). I'm 16 years old and have been writing for quite some time.

I began by writing fiction stories with my cousin, and it all spiraled from there. I never thought of publishing any of my work because it was always more of a hobby than a career.

I chose to write this poem because I've always been big on saving the Earth and the environment. I noticed that a lot of people aren't as mindful of it. Even though I also find it harder to notice the small things sometimes, they still matter.

Forgotten Nature

We never seem to appreciate the little things in this life,

of big cities and everlasting social media,

we bed rot to slave the day away, and we become slaves to the media

We never seem to look at the sun and how it illuminates the Earth and creates different hues of colors depending on the place,

I see how the light hits the trees and fall slowly in love with this forgotten nature

A place that the world has forgotten to nurture and yet we are killing this earth that we thrive on, all due to the selfishness of people in power saying that global warming is a hoax

I look up at that blue sky and wonder how much longer will it be blue until it is filled with smog

And again, no one bats an eye until the Earth is dead.

And we all are, too.
