Donate to Kensington Voice

Instead of only collecting donations for our general operations, we decided to launch a few cost-specific fundraising campaigns for our current fiscal year, which spans from July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024.

Therefore, you can donate to (or fundraise for) any of the below campaigns. Each one aims to raise money for a cost associated with our different programs and projects.

Meanwhile, our general donation campaign raises money for our general operations, which includes the community services we provide and the local news we publish for the community.

To fundraise, just click on one of the campaigns below and select, "I want to fundraise for this" at the top right corner.

General Support Campaign

Goal: The sky is the limit!

Kensington Voice has a big, new fundraising goal this year: to raise enough money from individual donors to pay one year of rent and utilities.

That means that between July 1, 2023 - June 30, 2024 (that's our fiscal year), we need to raise a total of $15,000 to literally keep our lights on

This money will directly support several community programs, including Miss Awilda's Media Learning Lab and Youth Voices

It will also support our public newsroom space, where we produce local stories by, for, and with the neighborhood

Kensington Voter Engagement Fund

Goal: $7,500

During the May 2023 primary election, the two voting wards that make up the majority of Kensington Voice's service area – Wards 7 and 33 – had the lowest voter turnouts in the city, at 10.62% and 11.19% respectively. Philly's citywide turnout was 27.48%.

Therefore, Kensington Voice hopes to raise money for an intervention that aims to increase voter turnout by increasing access to voter registration and mail-in application forms in the 19134, 19133, 19125, and 19122.

  • A growing list of 30 newspaper distribution partners
  • Bi-weekly pop-up newsroom events
  • Stoop delivery (on foot)

The money we raise through this fund will be used to cover a portion of our newspaper's printing and delivery costs.

Youth Voices: Student Participation Fund

Goal: $7,500

Through our Youth Voices programs, we encourage creative expression and youth empowerment by working with local youth in Grades 6 through 12 to develop first-person essays, photo stories, poems, and more. Depending on the complexity of each student’s project, we provide them with anywhere from a $75 to $150 VISA gift card as an incentive to participate.

During this fiscal year (July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024), our goal is to publish 50 Youth Voices pieces via our audio podcast, print newspaper, or website. Therefore, our goal is to raise $7,500 to fund – at minimum – the publication of 50 Youth Voices pieces.

The money we raise through this fund will go directly to the neighborhood youth who produce creative work for publication.
