Kensington native blends business models to bring fresh food to neighbors in need
Born and raised in Kensington, Austin Wright launched Ava’s Farm — a local produce market and nonprofit that offers free meals and youth programs to residents.
Kensington Voice, in partnership with NKCDC and funded by LISC Philly, is launching a small business storytelling project to celebrate local entrepreneurs.
Kensington Voice is excited to announce the launch of a new storytelling project dedicated to celebrating and supporting the vibrant small business community in Kensington. In partnership with the New Kensington Community Development Corporation (NKCDC) and funded by a grant from the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) Philadelphia, this project aims to highlight the stories of the entrepreneurs who are the backbone of our neighborhood.
Over the next three months, we will be publishing a series of stories on local businesses in Kensington. Each Small Business Spotlight will feature original reporting and professional photography to boost visibility and inspire community support.
In addition to these spotlights, we are also creating consumer guides for shopping and dining in Kensington and, in partnership with the Kensington Business Coalition, developing a Business Editorial Board. This board will debate issues of interest to local business owners and publish opinions based on those debates, helping to surface shared challenges and opportunities facing Kensington's local economy.
While this project is a partnership, Kensington Voice maintains full editorial independence. Our reporting is guided by our mission to serve the community with journalistic integrity. NKCDC will provide support in outreach and community connection while we independently manage the stories we tell about the small business community.
We believe that by sharing these stories, we can foster a stronger, more connected, and economically vibrant Kensington that supports the health and wellbeing of all people in the neighborhood.
