Here's how you can support Kensington Voice to keep our work going and growing

Kensington Voice is a non-profit community hub and newsroom that pairs direct services with journalism to improve quality of life in Kensington.

Unlike other Philly newsrooms, we don't paywall the communities we work with and write about. Instead, we rely on community support to sustain and grow our work in a way that keeps it free and accessible for all people.

If you support community power and news and information accessibility, there are lots of ways you can uplift what we do – some at no cost to you!

Read below if you'd like to contribute to our cause.

Cost: Starting at $175.

Advertisements directly fund the journalism that we produce and publish by, for, and with the community.

Ads support our reporter's salaries and distribution costs for the information we publish (via audio, print, and web).

Attend our events and programs.

Cost: Free!

Our events and programs are often funded by government grants and private donors who expect us to produce an impact for the funds provided.

For example, we currently have a multi-year Violence Intervention & Prevention (VIP) Grant from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency to support some of our on-site programs for adults and youth. Therefore, you can support what we do by showing up and signing in!

Distribute our newspaper.

Cost: Free!

The more people we can reach with our newspapers, the greater impact we have. And the greater impact we have, the more likely people are willing to invest us through advertisements, sponsorships, and otherwise.

Currently, we distribute our newspapers at nearly 30 locations across the 19134, 19133, 19125, and 19122 ZIP codes. If you'd like to join this list, you can do so for free by clicking the link below.

Individual donations directly support our community programs and local journalism. All donations are tax-deductible through our fiscal sponsorship with the Federation of Neighborhood Centers (23-1630073).

Donors can donate to our general fund, which covers both our community programs and journalism, or they can donate directly to either of the two.

Follow us and share our stories on social media.

The more people who engage with our stories, the more advertisements and sponsorships we can sell to support our local journalism.

Fundraise on our behalf.

Cost: Your labor, which we know is not free!

Instead of only collecting donations for our general operations, Kensington Voice decided to launch a few cost-specific fundraising campaigns for our current fiscal year, which spans from July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024.

However, since we do not have a lot of time to fundraise, we invested in a new fundraising platform that lets others fundraise for us (known as "peer-to-peer fundraising").

As a result, anyone who is interested in raising money for our work can create a personalized fundraising page to raise money for any of the Kensington Voice campaigns.

Read and listen to our work.

The more people who read and listen to our stories, the more advertisements and sponsorships we can sell to support our local journalism. See where you can read and listen to our work below:

Send us supplies.

Cost: $5+

Sometimes, event, program, and office supplies can eat up a lot of our costs. Other times, due to the expense of paying people a fair, living wage, we are unable to purchase equipment and supplies that would increase the impact and quality of our work.

Therefore, we created an Amazon Wish List for anyone who is interested in donating much-needed goods to us directly.

Share an impact we've had on you.

Cost: Free!

When we apply for awards and grant funding, the applications we complete always ask about our impact.

While it's easy for us to keep track of how many people we reach through our events, programs, and journalism, it's hard for us to track what happens after we've reached them. Therefore, we are always looking for stories about how our work has affected you, someone you know, or your community.

For example, we recently heard from the Norris Square Senior Community Center, one of the nearly 30 locations where we distribute our newspapers each month. They shared that they have been using our Spanish newspapers as part of their group programming because our stories are easy to read and reading helps improve memory.

Cost: $2,500+

Sponsorships directly fund our community events and programs, plus the stories we produce and publish about the community.

Subscribe to our newsletters.

Cost: Free!

The more people that subscribe to our free newsletters, the more advertisements and sponsorships we can sell. Those advertisements and sponsorships directly fund the journalism we produce and publish for, by, and with the community.

Volunteer your time.

Cost: Your labor, which we know is not free!

While we do our best to advocate for funding to support everyone who contributes to the success of our organization, we do have a limited budget and therefore limited capacity. Therefore, we rely on volunteers to support our community programs, newsroom, and organization.
